Hi everyone I'm back on the Zone! My computer broke! It had to go to the shop! We got it home and it didn't work! My Mom gave me an early Christmas present! I have a lap top! Jaws makes the screene freeze up! When starting! I have to turn the computer off by hand! I know that's not good! When I restart it Jaws comes up fine! How do I correct this?

Hmmm well i'mnot a jfw user so i don't kno if this has happened before.
But when you say that the computer freezes, do you mean that jfw freezes or the hole computer? For example, if you press windows key u once its crashed, can you here another voice talking?
If so a re install of jaws might do the trick, if not, perhaps a call to the laptop shop so that they can have a look.

Welcome back. As Buckeye fan said above, congrats on the early Christmas present.

Does the computer work fine if jaws doesn't start automatically? I'm assuming you have jaws starting automatically.

One thing you might do is go to the options in jaws, select basic options, and tab down to make sure that the keyboard you are using is a laptop. This probably wouldn't freeze your computer, but I've seen it do really strange things when you have the wrong keyboard selected.

Maybe you should give us a little more information about the laptop, it's hard to diagnose problems in a void. What operating system? what version of jaws? what software do you have running? etc. etc.

Thanks.
Bob

hahahaha!gee, I would take that further and say because it's windows. but really!!! perhaps try rather then Having Jaws start automaticly turn that off and creat a hotkey for it so that when your machine boots it will boot cleanly without jaws. try it this way for a while and if you notice that there is no longer any freezing up perhaps run the Jaws repair tool. now, to jaws users, has anyone been able to find the repair tool in the latest version or do I need to use the cd to bring up the installer an select repair? This can be a helpful tool for many thinkgs.
Hmm, if I say Get a Mac will I be shot again? Seriousley, let us know what happens. And what kind of machine is it? Have a great evening.

to perform a repair on jaws 7.1, do the following:

open the run dialog and type/paste this:

MsiExec.exe /I{8A2BAD28-3D41-4258-8EC8-A1D9A5E24B01}

Um, Okay.really appreciate that but think I would prefer the standard tool.
